Last Update

Howdy everyone! Today is my last weekly update for good…I’m actually pretty sad. I have really enjoyed covering these political sex scandals over the past couple months, and am actually surprised I even had people check out this blog. Some of my general thoughts after doing this blog this semester:

  • The US has WAY MORE political sex scandals than I expected
  • People will do whatever it takes to keep their hands looking clean
  • Humans are all sorts of screwed up…BUT there is good out there still in the political world – I just didn’t cover that part
  • Polls are difficult to conduct but give so much insight

The one thing I loved about this blog was being able to conduct my own polls. That really opened my eyes to a lot of differing opinions from people my own age and I got some perspective. So my last question to all of you – what was your favorite part of this blog? Did you have a favorite post? What poll did you like? Although I won’t be blogging anymore – I will still gladly respond to any questions or comments you have for me. That’s all I have for today and forever – so long everybody!

A Final Video

Happy Saturday everybody! I have been searching on the internet for a video that could relate to much of what I have talked about on this blog…and I found a short little clip called, “Is the Political Sex Scandal Dead?” Check it out below.

So this video is basically talking about political sex scandals and how forgiveness seems to be a bigger thing now – politicians don’t always have to resign after a scandal…in fact, they can run again for re-election. But when I watched this, I wondered if it’s a forgiveness thing…or people simply just don’t care anymore. I always end up checking out the comments on YouTube videos and went through a bunch of the ones on this clip. Many people are basically saying “good riddance” to caring about what a politician does in his/her personal time. Has our population progressed and become more understanding? Or have we lost a sense of morality? Lord knows the people who were commenting on this video clip but I still found that interesting. So what do you think? Let me know.

The Final Poll

WOOHOO!!! We have reached my final poll for this blog and I am going to keep it kinda simple because it’s Thanksgiving and I am ready to pass out from eating too much turkey. So as you all have probably seen in my past blog posts…I get pretty irritated when I see a politician still sitting pretty in office when they have had a pretty bad political sex scandal. So I wanted to see how others felt about it and get their viewpoints. I had 10 college aged females participate in this poll. The first question I asked was, “Can you think of someone currently in office who has had a political sex scandal?” Here are the results:

final poll 1

final poll 2

Okay so I mostly asked this questions just to jog the memory of these participants in preparation for the next section. Only 3 out of 10 participants could think of someone off the top of their head currently in office with a political sex scandal. It’s more than what I was expecting…I thought only one person would say yes. But this is still a small amount. The next question I asked was, “Are you okay with a politician keeping his/her position if they have had a political sex scandal?” Here are the results:

final poll 3

I didn’t really know what to expect for this answer but I felt depends would be a bigger vote because people see some sex scandals as a bigger deal than others – it’s situational. But there were more hard no’s than yeses. Keep that in mind for the discussion of the next poll question. The last question I answered was, “Explain your reasoning” in regards to the question above. Here are the results:

final poll 4

final poll 5.png

Okay so the “it depends” reasoning mostly came down to their personal life being separate from their political life. Mistakes happen and apparently…there’s different levels of political sex scandals that could change someone’s opinion on them leading. The one answer that intrigued me was how one participant stated rape or anything along those lines would make her feel uncomfortable having that politician in office. But if it’s something “minor” then no biggie really. So cheating on your husband/wife is just a minor issue…I get the point but the wording just feels off. Anyways, It’s interesting how many people really just find it situational and how the person’s personal life shouldn’t hurt their ability to lead others in politics. The one person who did say no made the point I have brought up in previous blog posts. Politicians are leaders and if they aren’t leading an honest life personally…why should they be holding that position of power?

That’s all I have for today, folks. Questions? Wanna make a different point? Feel free to reach out to me! Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Quick to Resign

Edward L. Schrock, former representative of Virginia, was a very supported by his state in being a leading politician – especially in regards to being opposed to gay rights. Shrock held a 92% approval rating from the Christian Coalition and a 0% rating from the Human Rights Campaign. He was a well liked maed schrockn…until his hypocrisy  came floating up to the surface. Schrock dropped from the race for re-election out of nowhere in August of 2004 and many wondered what was go
ing on with the famous polit
ician.  According to Washington Post, his drop from the race happened because of a gay activist claimed on his website that Schrock was secretly gay. WP also reports that he was caught on tape using a men’s telephone service for…meeting other men and whatnot. I have tried bu failed to find the actual website where this audio link was posted and the original article by the gay rights activist, Michael Rogers. Schrock resigned as what seemed to just be a quick runaway from the accusations. Another one bites the dust due to hypocrisy.

What the Buz

Howdy everyone! I am going to start of this final week with a classic political sex scandal. Donald “Buz” Lukens, a Representative from Ohio, had a couple of hiccups in his career – especially in 1990. Here is a couple of points I have found about his history according to Downfall Dictionary:

  • Investigated in 1954 for child molestation in 1954
  • 1989 dealt with a misdemeanor charge – contributed to unruliness and delinquency of a child
  • A mother heard about her daughter’s sexual encounters with Lukens at age 13 and 16 by overhearing her daughter talking to a friend
  • Lukens denied knowing the girl was underage
  • A trial broke out from this and although the daughter admitted to lying about her age…he laughed it off and said she wasn’t that old and continued to have sexual encounters with her – she got gifts in return

So..quite a bit on Lukens plate – and the courts had enough of it. He resigned from office in Fall of 1990. But just days before the resignation, he was accused of fondling a woman in the elevator. I mean with a history like that…who wouldn’t be buzzing about it?

Weekly Update

I don’t have a funny comic for this week again…and okay okay I only delivered one poll this week…I had a job interview in Dallas and am PRAYING TO ALL HEAVENS that I get it! Hence the missing poll. But look forward to it! This will be my last week of blogging and a part of me is really actually sad. It’s been difficult to keep up with these little blogs but I have enjoyed getting more info on these political sex scandals…always something to talk about here! So this last week I am going to cover my last poll about politicians keeping their positions after having sex scandals. I am also going to cover a few more sex scandals here and there throughout the years – but I will NOT cover Clinton. It’s overdone and I’m pretty tired of hearing about Clinton (Mr. or Mrs.). Well I hope everyone has a great week and look forward to checking up with my final week! And happy early thanksgiving!!

They DO Exist!

Okay so in my poll earlier it was discussing political sex scandals in other countries…apparently not many come to mind according to my poll sample. So I decided to go on YouTube to find a little example of one. DING DING DING I found one so click on the link below (since WordPress changed its settings and WON’T LET ME POST THE VIDEO ON HERE).

Basically I’m bringing up this political sex scandal to show you all how one is portrayed in other countries. It’s put on social media…there’s a lot of people following it…private videos of the people are being blasted on live TV…it’s media. Media exists in other countries outside the US and will blast a political sex scandal just as much as much as they are here in America. How people handle it may or may not be different because of culture differences or the importance of them. I find that America is truly just oblivious of other countries and their issues because we are so focused on ourselves here. But that may be the case in other countries.
